Celebrating 275,000 Miles

As of October 2017, Motiv-powered vehicles have driven over 275,000 miles. In 2017 alone, they have covered over 83,000 miles, saving nearly 300 barrels of oil from consumption. Our technology and company have grown significantly since we started our mission to free fleets from fossil fuels in 2009. As a team, we have grown by 200% in the last year while continuing to deploy the most flexible and convenient all-electric powertrain system available.

We are proud to work closely with our customers to meet their all-electric powertrain needs and assist them in identifying available incentives. If you are interested in electrifying your fleet and learning about available funding programs, please email our sales team. We look forward to celebrating 500,000 miles and beyond with you!

We're committed to freeing fleets from their dependency on fossil fuels!

All-Electric Motiv-Powered Vehicles

Motiv in September

In September, we attended the Alternative Fuel Vehicles (AFV) Expo & Sustainability Summit in Indianapolis, Indiana. While at the show we displayed an all-electric, Motiv-powered, Ford F-59 chassis. AFV Expo is hosted by Greater Indiana Clean Cities Coalition, a local alternative fuels in transportation expert This organization focuses on helping private and public sector fleets in their deployment of alternative fuels and technologies that reduce foreign oil consumption.

News & Policy

Motiv is celebrating new legislation that aligns with our vision of freeing fleets from fossil fuels. Recently signed into law by California Governor Jerry Brown, Assembly Bill 739, authored by Assemblymember Ed Chau, requires at least 15% of new heavy-duty vehicles purchased by state agencies to be zero-emissions beginning in 2025, and at least 30% of those vehicles to be zero emissions beginning in 2030. Additionally, Senate Bill 498 by Senator Nancy Skinner requires at least 50% of the state’s light-duty vehicle fleet to be zero-emission vehicles by 2025 was established, up from the previous goal of 25% by 2020. The combined effect of these bills sends a clear signal that zero-emission vehicles will be the vast majority of future purchases from the state as California’s state fleet leads the way to sustainable operations.

To meet these mandates fleet managers statewide are advised to begin planning operational changes, making facility upgrades, and integrating sustainable solutions into their annual budgets to prepare for this mandate. Motiv looks forward to supplying such fleets with zero-emission school buses, refuse trucks, and other municipal vehicles.

Did You Know?

Anti-Idling Laws? We Have You Covered.

Going all-electric makes stopping and starting a breeze. Thirty-one states have anti-idling regulations, some prohibiting vehicles from idling for more than five minutes to protect air quality.  When you switch to a zero-emission, all-electric solution, there is no need to fully turn off your school bus when children are loading or your walk-in-van when your operator is delivering. All-electric vehicles don't idle, they are simply ready to accelerate when your operator is ready. Less wear and tear on your vehicle, less wasted fuel, and less time waiting for your engine to start at every stop sign and signal light.

We Would Love to Hear from You

About Motiv Power Systems

Founded in 2009 and based in Foster City, California, Motiv Power Systems designs and builds All-Electric Powertrains for commercial medium and heavy-duty trucks and buses. The powertrains are based on commercially-available, proven-reliable common parts like battery packs, motors, and high voltage accessories configured to meet the diverse needs of the commercial vehicle industry. Common vehicle types from these builders include work, delivery, and refuse trucks, as well as school and shuttle buses.

As the only Ford Qualified Vehicle Modifier-approved provider of all-electric powertrains for commercial trucks and buses, Motiv partners with existing truck builders who manufacture electric versions of their traditional fossil-fueled vehicles on their current assembly lines using the Motiv All-Electric Powertrain. The award-winning Motiv All-Electric Powertrain is installed at the time of vehicle manufacture, similar to a natural gas or propane upfit.

We're committed to freeing fleets from their dependency on fossil fuels!
